Fluted plaster fireplace in the making

To make this traditional, fluted plaster fireplace, our team ran individual moldings “on the bench” using a custom plywood mold. We took multiple passes over wet plaster to refine each piece. After drying, the moldings were installed on site in Tarrytown. Thanks to our frequent collaborator, Tim Hardy, for his professional assistance and old-school tools of the trade.

This old-school, ornamental plaster technique involves creating a custom plywood mold matching the architect’s specifications. We then lay down wet plaster and take multiple passes over the mold to refine each piece. When fully dry, the moldings are ready to be installed on site.
