Fluted plaster fireplace in the making

A traditional, fluted plaster fireplace in the making for an Austin Tarrytown home. Sloan’s crew runs individual moldings “on the bench” using a custom plywood mold. After drying, the moldings are installed on site. Thanks to Tim Hardy for his assistance and old-school tools of the trade!

Video of plaster craftsmen running moldings on the bench for a fluted plaster fireplace

Our team ran moldings on the bench to create a fluted plaster fireplace for an Austin residence in the Tarrytown neighborhood. This old-school, ornamental plaster technique involves creating a custom mold matching the architect’s specifications. We take multiple passes over the mold for each piece. When fully dry, the moldings are ready to be installed.
